University of Toronto Aerospace Team - Rocketry
Our Rocketry Team competes yearly in the Advanced Division of the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC). We design and build all components of the rocket, from custom machined tanks to composite layups. A large focus of improvement each year is the construction and testing of our own hybrid motors. A hybrid rocket motor uses solid fuel and liquid oxidizer; in theory, this alleviates the dangers with the volatility of solid motors while maintaining a less complex flow system than liquid motors. I regularly help conduct static fire engine tests to validate our simulated models of engine performance, and I have contributed to our custom Matlab script for predicting fuel regression rates.
